It is our natural desire to protect ourselves, what we love and believe in. No matter what are differences are I do believe that all of us want to make sure that everyone and everything in our lives stay on track.
Lately, I have felt the need to keep my family and belongings safe and protected. The more I try the harder it is and I forget that I am not expected or even able to. I have to let go. I have to Surrender
It seems like a defeat, yet I can’t be defeated by something that is not within my control to fix. Letting go and surrendering is scary, I am often tempted to flee, fix, or force situations.
All of these temptations stem from fear and lack of trust. I have perceptions of how my life should be. If I keep focused and doing what I know is right there shouldn’t be suffering. I shouldn’t have to feel lost in a wilderness.
In this episode, Barb Roose shares her own story of acknowledging her “control – loving ways” and how she stopped being afraid to let go and trust God with whatever happened. She had to admit that the weight of her problems were too much for her to bear.
Her new bible study, Surrendered – Letting Go and Living Like Jesus, is a study of Jesus in the wilderness. Jesus was lead into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit right after a glorious display of God’s love and adoration – His baptism. He should have had time to bask in the event, have a celebratory dinner. But He was lead and He went willingly into intense temptation and suffering. He went for a purpose so that you and I could learn how to find hope and help in our wilderness season.
This bible study could not have been published at a more perfect time when surrender is really our only option. While we are fighting to get back to normal and find comfort. Whether you struggle against adjustments in career, shifts in personal relationships, or a transition in how you see your personal identity, remember the Holy Spirit leads Jesus into the wilderness, Jesus did not go alone. If you feel abandoned, God is close by! God sees you and He hasn’t left you alone.
Listen in as Barb shares 2 of her 6 surrender principles.
#1 I am not in control of others or outcomes
There are 5 control-loving behaviors that we all share in order to try and fix the future or force behaviors.
#4 Trusting God’s promises will bless me – pushing my plans will stress me -letting go of expectations
Three questions we can ask ourselves to help us move away from being a “remote control” for others or outcomes.
If you’re tired of following your feelings or being disappointed by unchanging circumstances, learn how to surrender like Jesus and experience God’s power and peace in your life as never before.
