Have you ever been to a basketball game?
I ask about basketball because it is the primary game my kids played when they were younger, and it gave me the opportunity to observe the coaches. Often, the coaches would have clipboards, and they would make notes on how the opposite team played: strengths, weak points, and any repetitive patterns that might give their players an advantage.
During timeout, the coach would use that clip board to show the players what they had observed: how to use those weaknesses to the team’s advantage, how to watch the other team’s strengths and catch them off guard.
If this sounds even somewhat familiar, it is because this is also in play in our spiritual life.
The enemy may not have a clipboard, but he observes you, learns everything he can about you, and he knows exactly how to get in your head. And how he gets into your head is not how he gets into mine. He is strategic and customizes his attack just for you, and just for me.
We are in a day-to-day, minute-by-minute spiritual battle, but we have the upper hand.
