How to Claim Victory when You Discover the Significance of Surrendering Without Stipulations

Do you remember the last time you wished you could predict the future?

People pay psychics for private readings to gain insight into their pasts, present, and futures, hoping to find peace, hope, and answers. Yet God tells us to Trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not to lean on our understanding.   He will direct our paths if we acknowledge him in ALL our ways.

Today, I was reflecting on the day before my daughter passed away as we enter into the day before Jesus passed away.

I opened my bible app and found the day’s verse in John 13.  The first verse grabbed my attention and spoke to me differently than before Annie passed away.

It reads: ‘Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.” John 13:1

Jesus knew his future in the days before his death, but I was protected from knowing my future before Annie’s.

This morning, as I walked around the town where Annie’s services were held, I processed the weight of that knowledge.

A miracle was all I prayed for; I begged God for one!

I surrender her, but please heal her.

I surrender her. Please use her life for your glory.

I cried out to him,  “I can’t lose my child!”

God whispered back, “She’s not lost.”

It was at this point I realized the stipulations I had for surrendering my child were out of my control, so I laid her down at Jesus’ feet.

I heard God’s voice again at that moment: “I surrendered my child, too.”

Jesus also asked that the stipulations of surrendering his life be different when he prayed, “Father if you are willing, take this cup away from me!”

Then He let go of the stipulations and fully surrendered, “Not my will, but yours, be done.”   Luke 22:42

It was only through a complete surrender that Jesus could claim victory.

We also have access to that victory when we surrender,  without stipulations.

No matter what you’re facing as we approach this Easter weekend, I pray you find the peace, hope, and answers you long for as you lean on the cross.
