I like to have a tangible, visual result of my efforts too. To see the “fruit of my labor” is a natural desire.
We were actually created to be fruitful.
When God created us He blessed us and then told us to be fruitful.
God said to be fruitful and multiply. To be fruitful is to be constructive, to be helpful and produce goodness. He then gifted us with the ability to create.
God could have created the world completely filled with everything it would need, but he wanted us to work in partnership alongside Him.
He wanted for us as His children to experience the joy of producing goodness and fulfillment of creating. Of being fruitful.
Being fruitful gives me purpose.
When I don’t see the fruit in a way that I had imagined or at all, it is easy for me to get discouraged and believe that what I am doing, writing or saying must not be valuable.
But that is what Satan wants.
To stay discouraged keeps me unfruitful.
This morning as I questioned why I should show up I was given a kind and gentle reminder –
“Let our people learn to devote themselves to good work for pressing needs, so that they will not be unfruitful.” Titus 3:14
We must go from being discouraged to being devoted. Showing up and working alongside God to help with the needs of those around us will yield the fruit that God intended.
What can you devote yourself to today that will help a pressing need?
I would love to hear your story about the shift in perspective.
