What would you do if the unthinkable happened?
Where would you find the strength to endure?
The Gordon family was confronted with that very challenge when their five-year-old son, Sawyer – known for his big blue eyes and vivacious spirit – cheerfully pedaled his bike onto their busy road.
Moments later, a distracted driver, someone the family knew, stood over the motionless child. The unthinkable had happened.
This is a question that we all ask when we go through suffering.
In this episode Summer Gordon will tell you that this question is one that she had to try again and again (and again) and come to terms with.
Summer asks God “Why?” over and over, and He reminds her of His word in Deuteronomy 29:29 –
“The hidden things belong to the LORD our God, but the revealed things belong to us and our children forever, so that we may follow all the words of this law.”
Just like earthly parents might keep bigger picture situations hidden from kids for their protection, our heavenly Father does as well.
Summer came to understand “even if God did give our ‘Why?’ questions answers, we would still not see enough of His big picture to even agree with Him.”
But God is a God of hope. As Summer kept asking God how she was going to leave her son behind, she felt God’s presence. He pointed her attention to what is coming and reminded her that her son is not behind but ahead.
God wants us to fully understand that this is not all there is. There is so much more.
