“Because I feel that, in the Heavens above,
The angels, whispering to one another,
Can find, among their burning terms of love,
None so devotional as that of “Mother.” Edgar Allan Poe
We have had to make complete life changes within days. Among all of the job descriptions that mother’s have many must now add Juggling into their resumes!
How do we mother amid crisis?
For me I have to have an emotional and spiritual plan.
Plan: an intention or decision about what one is going to do ~ and may I add not going to do. This is a time when giving all involved in our situation, grace. Without allowing ourselves the grace to only focus on what really matters fear and panic can grip us so tight.
This is where having a plan for emotional outlets like keeping connected with friends and family is so important. Mentor mom’s are a huge help too! Do you have one? Is there an older mother in your church or community that you can reach out to? If you are an older mother reaching out to a younger mom can remind you of the value God sees in you. Seeking a mentor in these times can be so helpful and vital.
Having a spiritual plan is also comforting. Keeping the Bible open so that during the day I can stop and read the encouraging Word has been a lifeline.
It is very easy to let the defeat of the devil rob us from the Joy of the Lord – our strength!
To distance ourselves emotionally and spiritually keeps us thinking no one else knows how bad it is, or even cares. This is not true, you are not alone and God cares!
Another way to find strength is to turn to stories and examples of how other mother’s have made it through times of crisis. I had the blessing of talking with Dr. Jolene Erlacher, of Leading Tomorrow, about a mother who was raising two kids and finds herself pregnant during one of the most terrifying crisis’ anyone could go through. In this discussion she shares 4 critical elements to Jochebed’s behavior as a mother in the midst of a crisis
Jochebed was a woman of strong faith and she had to come up with a plan while on her feet. In fact, she’s included in the faith “Hall of Fame” (Hebrews 11:23).
Pharaoh commanded Hebrew midwives to murder newborn sons of Hebrew women. He now saw Israel as a threat. During this reign of terror, Jochebed became pregnant with her third child. In that dangerous world, Jochebed did what she could do to save her newborn child.

I have also included a download of the notes HERE
I would love to hear from you.
What are biblical stories that are bringing your encouragement during this time?
