There are moments in grief when the world doesn’t stop. But everything inside you does.
The plans you had are gone. The life you knew has shifted. And the question that rises, sometimes whispered, sometimes cried, is simply:
Now What?
I know this question. I have asked it out loud. My daughter Annie died at 29.
People told me to hang in there. Some days I had no hang left. I did not need to be fixed. I did not need a list of steps. I needed a quiet place, a few women who would not rush me, and the reminder that God was holding me when I could not hold on.
That is why I opened The Porch.
Maybe you know this question too.

This is a place for women who have lost a loved one, or the life they once knew.
Women told me what grief looks like for them right now. Here are their words, not mine.
When you have lost someone:
“Some days it’s a challenge to brush my teeth.”
“It’s a lot of being smiley and happy. And I’m not.”
“People have stopped remembering my daughter isn’t here.”
“Somebody said, ‘You’re still grieving that, twenty years later?’
When you have lost the life you knew:
“My grief is the loss of someone who is still alive, my former husband of 37 years.”
“The reason I grieve is still going to be right there in front of me.”
“Will my body be able to enjoy all that I want to do!”
“I’m in a season where I wait, hoping some of my children’s activities include me, because they most often don’t.”
If you nodded at even one of those, you are in the right place.
What The Porch Is
The Porch is a faith-based learning community for women learning to live forward with loss. Without minimizing it. Without rushing it. It’s a place to sit, listen, pray, and grow with women who understand that grief doesn’t follow a straight path.
Here is what that means for you:
You can say the thing you’ve been holding in. One member calls this “one of the few places I feel I can be totally real.”
No one will hurry you. Twenty days in or twenty years in, you belong here.
You will keep walking. Slowly. Forward.
We listen for God’s voice together. Every gathering, every resource, and every prayer is rooted in Scripture.
You will not be the only one. The women here rely on God to carry them through hard days, and they want to offer you that same steady presence.
What you share stays here. The Porch is private and protected, with no ads, no politics, and no strangers’ opinions about your loss.
The Porch is a supportive community and does not replace professional counseling.
Where the Comfort Comes From
The Bible calls Him “the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
That is how The Porch works. Comfort comes from God. Then it gets passed down the row. A woman two years ahead of you hands you what she was handed. One day you will hand it to someone else.
You are not hanging in there. You are being held in there.
This is a place for progress—without pressure.
Picture the Next Hard Date
There is a date on your calendar you are already bracing for. A birthday. An anniversary. The day the phone rang.
Only this time you have a plan for it. You decided on a good day what you would keep, what you would change, and what you would let go of. You told the people around you what you need, in words a Guide helped you find.
The morning comes. You do not have to be smiley and happy. You do not have to run it all. One member put it this way: “I don’t have to show up a certain way. That’s a gift to me as these dates approach.”
And another: “There’s actually kind of a release and a peace in that.”
That is what The Porch is for. Not to make the grief go away. To give you somewhere to stand inside it, and women who will stand there with you.
