There are days I just don’t want to deal with what’s going on.
When it feels like there’s too much going on around me to focus, family sickness, community needs, taxes to file, and the never ending house care, it’s easy to wish I could simply not care.
I find myself looking for something—anything—to make a “bad” emotion go away, asking myself –
- What can I do?
- What can I eat?
- Who can I talk to (or talk about) to make me feel better about myself right now?
When the desire to dull my emotions comes my friend Amy Carroll would ask me –
“𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞, 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞?”
Often we turn to something to dull or we turn to someone to deal before we turn to God. Amy will remind us that our pain points to a problem; and problems are meant to be solved, but only God can solve — our pain should force us to lean into Him.
God is the creator of our feelings. He himself has experienced every single emotion we have, and He is the one who can hold us. He holds all things together!
“He is before all things, and by him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:17
Listen in as Amy gives us all a simple thing to do when we are going through difficult times and just want to numb out.
