I was honored to return as a guest on Bridges, hosted by Monica Schmelter, on the Christian Television Network.
I’m especially honored because this invitation came from a very personal place for Monica. After her brother passed away, she read a blog I had written called: Beyond “I Don’t Know What to Say.”
In it, I shared how silence—or the fear of saying the wrong thing—often builds walls around those who are grieving.
Monica told me those words resonated with her as she walked through her own family’s loss. She wanted to continue that conversation on Bridges so we could help others move beyond silence and into meaningful connection.
When I lost my eldest daughter, Annie Lauren, at just 29 years old, the sorrow was unimaginable. In the weeks and months that followed, I often heard the phrase: “I don’t know what to say.” I understand those words come from love, but they can leave grieving hearts feeling even more alone.
That’s why I created the Beyond “I Don’t Know What to Say” Grief Communication Cards—a gentle tool with prompts to spark conversations, keep memories alive, and provide comfort in times of loss.
Grief is complicated. Communication doesn’t have to be.
